Ratko Paper Tube Modeling and Art


Here is a simple idea: roll up papers you don't need, and make new things out of these little "paper logs." Ratko Maltar introduces the way he does it here.

In June 2010, Nathania Johnson, Maria Droujkova and their kids tried to make hyperbolic paraboloids this way. We were inspired by this Second Life portrait of a paraboloid:

Rollin up paper is pretty soothing. We used Yellow Pages, which the company insists on delivering for some inane reason, even though the book does not come with the Search button. Are the shapes paraboloids? We'll have to investigate more!
